Thrift Store Finds With each artwork I create a story from a combination of long forgotten glass objects found in thrift stores, garage and yard sales, abandoned buildings, and swap meets - clear and textured glass from ashtrays, pressed glass plates, candy and butter dishes, old shower doors or windows. The treasures are found in California's High Desert towns who's names are a story onto themselves - Amboy, Chambliss, Landers, and Wonder Valley (my favorite!).
I join the highly textured glass pieces together in a technique similar to stained glass, using lead, solder and wire to create “panels” that are engaging works of art all on their own.
To make the artwork jump off the wall, I create a painting on canvas or board incorporating the patterns in the glass panels. I wire the panels I create to the canvases or boards I paint, resulting in beautiful, 3-dimensional art that sings with life and joy. Currently I am exploring connecting the smaller left-over pieces from my art work to create sculptures.
